Open Space Trees

The Ridgefield Conservation Commission (RCC) manages Town open spaces under its jurisdiction. Issues with trees located on open space should be reported to the RCC. It can be reached via telephone (203) 431-2713 or email at [email protected].

Except for those that have fallen across trails, the RCC does not remove fallen trees in open spaces. The Commission relies on natural forces to manage the forest. Trees, even fallen trees, play an important role in a healthy forest. Trees that are blocking trails or are hanging above trails should be reported to the RCC so that they can be evaluated/removed.

Trees that have fallen from open space onto private property are not the responsibility of the RCC; the portions of such trees sitting on private property may be removed by the property owner. The cutting down or trimming of trees on open-space land or the dumping of any material on such land is strictly forbidden unless approved by the RCC. Violators are subject to potentially substantial fines. For trees on open-space land that have the potential to cause damage contact the Tree Warden, 203-431-2358, [email protected].

For trees of in or on wetlands (that are not wetlands on open space), contact the Town Inland Wetlands Agent, Caleb Johnson, 203-431-2383, [email protected]. Tree issues near wires or poles are the sole responsibility of Eversource. To create a service request please click on Eversource Service Request Form.
