Protecting Seniors from Scams & Crimes
Seniors - protect yourselves and your money from scams!
The Commission on Aging and the Ridgefield Library will present a talk by Detective Victoria Ryan of the Ridgefield Police on Tuesday, May 23, 2023 from 1-2:30 pm. Detective Ryan will speak about many of the scams currently being used targeting seniors.
Topics include:
- Computer scams which include pop-ups
- E-mail scams
- Romance scams
- Phone scams which include utilities scams
- Grandparents scams
- Text message scams
Detective Ryan will also review commonly seen local crimes. Stolen checks from the mail and stolen motor vehicles are among those crimes.
The April 2023 AARP.ORG/Bulletin which features “Your 2023 Fraud Survival Guide” points out that scammers quickly adapt to the news and moods of the moment. Always be vigilant and educate yourself.
