Board Duties

The Zoning Board of appeals is a quasi-judicial board, the functions of which are mainly set forth in Connecticut General Statutes, Section 8-6. These functions are to hear and decide petitions:

  1. to vary the zoning regulations of the Town of Ridgefield
  2. to appeal the decisions of the official charged with the enforcement of the zoning ordinance
  3. to participate in the eminent domain process when the Town of Ridgefield or State of Connecticut elects to take a portion of a parcel of property that would leave that property in violation of the zoning regulations.

The Board hears petitions at public hearings held once or twice per month on Monday evenings in the Town Hall Annex Public Meeting Room. Each decision by the Zoning Board of Appeals is subject to appeal to Superior Court.
