 CHFA Time to Own Program and Others
For a limited time, CHFA will offer the Time To Own - Forgivable Down Payment Assistance loan to help alleviate potential homebuyers' inability to cover the down payment and closing costs required to purchase their first home.

Administered by CHFA on behalf of the CT Department of Housing, the Time To Own loan is available to eligible homebuyers in conjunction with a CHFA first mortgage loan. Eligible homebuyers may also take advantage of the CHFA Down Payment Assistance (DAP) loan, in addition to the Time To Own - Forgivable Down Payment Assistance loan Program.

Ridgefield Housing Authority (RHA) Properties
The RHA owns and operates 149 affordable units among several in-town properties. Each property offers housing for different groups—seniors, frail elderly, low-income households and adults with disabilities. These properties are:

Ballard Green 21, 25 & 27 Gilbert Street

  • Housing for seniors and adults with disabilities
  • Eligibility: Tenant must be at least 62 years old or disabled
  • 60 units including 6 that are handicap accessible

Prospect Ridge 51 Prospect Ridge

  • Housing for frail/elderly, adults and families with income below specific limits
  • Eligibility: Tenant must be at least 62 years old and frail or low-income family
  • 74 units including 40 for low-income families and 34 for frail/elderly

NOTE: Due to high demand and limited supply, the RHA units have waiting lists. Your time on a waiting list can be between one and five years.

Housing for Adults with Disabilities
Sunrise Cottage: Sunset Lane (5 bedrooms): Sunrise Cottage is a group home for adults with disabilities. It is operated by Ability Beyond, a Bethel-based nonprofit that operates housing and programs for people with disabilities.

Naturally Occurring Affordable Housing (NOAH)
There are many moderately priced rental units in town that do not have income restrictions. Properties include the Casagmo and Fox Hill condominiums. Contact a local real estate agent to learn more about these listings.

Housing Choice Program (aka Section 8)
Housing Assistance Low-income households may qualify for Housing Choice (formerly known as Section 8) vouchers. To learn more about this program, visit 211 CT.

Danbury Housing Authority

The Danbury Housing Authority manages approximately 900 low- and moderate-income apartment units. In addition to administering the Public Housing program, the Authority administers approximately 1,100 Housing Choice vouchers.
