The Town Clerks Office is responsible for recording certificates of Birth, Marriage & Death for those events that have occured in Ridgefield. We also issue Marriage Licenses to couples who wish to be married in Ridgefield. In addition, Town Clerks Office issues Burial/Removal Permits, and certified copies of vital records.

To obtain a certified copy of a Birth Certificate, please complete the Application for Birth Certificate. Requester must attach a copy of picture identification. The fee is $20.00 per copy for the long form and $15.00 per copy for wallet size. Payment must be made by cash or check (payable to Town Clerk).
Mail request, copy of picture I.D. and payment to Ridgefield Town Clerk, 400 Main Street, Ridgefield, CT 06877.
Access to birth records less than 100 years old is restricted in Connecticut. To be eligible to obtain a certified copy of a birth certificate, one must be:
- The person whose birth is recorded, if over eighteen years of age
- Such person's child, grandchild, spouse, parent, guardian or
- The chief executive officer of the municipality where the birth occurred, or the chief executive officer's authorized agent
- The local director of health for the municipality where the birth occurred or where the mother was a resident at the time of birth, or the director's authorized agent
MARRIAGE LICENSES / GETTING MARRIED IN RIDGEFIELD
A marriage license is required to be married in the Town of Ridgefield. The license must be obtained from the town in which you are getting married. A marriage license is valid for 65 days, (the ceremony must take place within 65 days of applying for the license).
Both parties must apply for a marriage license in person, together or individually. Applicants must sign the Marriage License and take an oath in the presence of the Town Clerk or Assistant Town Clerk.

After the marriage ceremony, the license is recorded by the officiator who performed the ceremony. Applicants must complete a Marriage License Request Form to receive a certified copy of the marriage license from the Town Clerk's Office: Request Form for Certified Copy of Marriage License
The cost for the marriage license is $50; certified copies are $20 each. Payment must be made by cash or check.
You may apply for a marriage license between the hours of 8:30 - 11:30 AM and 2:00 - 4:00 PM, Monday through Friday. Marriage licenses are not issued between the hours of 12:00 and 2:00 PM. Applicants should plan on spending approximately 20 minutes in the Town Clerk's Office when applying for a marriage license.
