Molly McGeehin, Town Treasurer

MollyMcGeehin

For the past six years Molly has been the town treasurer. She has one of the most important jobs in the town hall as she is responsible for investing the town’s money wisely. She must be cognizant of financial trends and decisions that will work best for our town. On the more mundane but important side, Molly is also responsible for cutting the checks for the various employee groups in town.

As a part time employee, Molly has reviewed banking relationships to maximize revenue income for the town and safeguarded tax dollars. She has also created a cash flow analysis report to ensure town funds are utilized to their fullest potential and works with the Ridgefield Board of Finance. In addition to this Molly has revised policies that resulted in the reduction of administration and banking fees, maintained regular office hours, created “best practices” and written an extensive manual for better understanding the financial functions of the town.

To prepare for her career in finance Molly received her undergraduate degree from the University of Scranton in Pennsylvania, graduating magna cum laude. She then acquired an MBA in finance from the University of Connecticut and became a Certified Public Accountant. Molly was a Pennsylvania native, who grew up in Hazelton, Pennsylvania. She has now lived in Ridgefield for over 30 years with her husband who is a financial benefits consultant. Molly has two grown sons.

Prior to working at the Ridgefield Town Hall, Molly held finance management positions at /Colgate-Palmolive, AT and T, L’Oréal, Shiseido American Corporation and the town of Monmouth Junction in N.J. Her own financial firm is called Ridgefield Accounting Systems. Molly loves a challenge and being efficient. She loves to problem solve and make programs run more effectively.  Molly thrives on her organizational skills and is willing to put them to the test at any time and in any way.

There is probably no one in Ridgefield that does more volunteer work than Molly. She was the treasurer for the Ridgefield Library for many years and has also been treasurer for the Farmingville and East Ridge Middle School PTO’s. Molly has also served on the Earth Alliance Committee, as a Friend of the Garden of Ideas Program, as a reader for the Danbury School System and as a caller for the Rides for Ridgefield Program.

Molly’s passion project, however, has always been conservation/environment and what our country and our town can do to preserve and improve upon what we have. For over a dozen years Molly has provided leadership for the first environmental agency in town, RACE (Ridgefield Action Committee for the Environment). She is proud of what the agency has been able to accomplish but knows that so much more can be accomplished.

Using her knowledge of finance, the environment, and ways to serve the public, Molly previously wrote a regular column for the Ridgefield Press focusing on Eco-Tips for the Public. She was also involved in developing a series of six zoom sessions for the Ridgefield Library with a focus on natural resources and reducing waste. Her topics included: electric vehicles, recycling measures, climate change, furnace and other oils, energy tax credits, and solar energy. In March on Global Recycling Day, Molly likes to develop a series of events to spotlight what needs to be done in our community.

Taking her environmental knowledge to Ridgefield’s new Compassionate Ridgefield Committee, Molly is helping people to better understand recycling along with other issues vital to the town. She is also continuing to serve on panels, write grants, speak to legislative members, work with the schools, and even work on the dog poop situation to better Ridgefield’s environment.

Finally, Molly is looking forward to more travel in the future and working with people she respects.  She respects people who have strong beliefs and are willing to stand behind these beliefs.  Molly is certainly an example of what she so strongly admires in others. She speaks her truth, follows through on her beliefs and promises, and is a role model for so many in Ridgefield.
