Kevin Redmond, Director of Finance

Kevin Redmond

One of the most important positions in the Ridgefield Town Hall is that of controller. The controller has a connection to every department as he/she is responsible for overseeing financially and reporting on each department’s finances in annual and other reports. By December 31st of each year Kevin, Ridgefield’s controller or head of the department of finance, is required to compile the town’s Annual Report, a volume which is several pounds in weight.

When Kevin describes his job he talks about budgeting, working with payroll, accounts payable, and  accounts receivable. He also deals with  purchasing, overseeing grants, risk management, fixed assets, debt management and compliance. Part of Kevin’s responsibilities also includes external audits, audit report preparation, pre- and post-employment figures, and benefit accounts. He often works with Molly McGeehin, town treasurer. However, her job is unlike Kevin’s in that she is an elected official and works part time.

Kevin has been our town’s comptroller for almost fourteen years now. Even though previously he had worked for Deloitte, Cartus, and other large companies, Kevin enjoys working at the town hall. He likes having control over almost all aspects of his job. When something goes right, he is responsible, however, if it goes wrong, he is responsible as well. He likes the fact that there is not much overlapping of his job with others, so he is an important decision maker in the organization.

When asked why he went into finance and accounting, Kevin remarked that he always thought about going into his own business, being an entrepreneur. He also says that it might not be too late for him to  achieve this goal. Kevin is always thinking about possibilities. For right now, Kevin enjoys working as part of Rudy’s team and making his hometown a better place in which to live.

Born in Brooklyn, Kevin’s family moved shortly to New Fairfield and that is where Kevin went to school. In high school he played football and wrestled. Kevin started college at Western Ct. State University in Danbury and was on the football team. After his freshman year he transferred to the University of Connecticut in Storrs and became a business major studying accounting. Kevin loves the logical portion of accounting and finds it fascinating.

While in college Kevin was active in the ROTC and then the reserves, 102nd Infantry Battalion Division. Kevin was commissioned as an officer in the U.S. Army reserve, however, was never called up for active duty.

A man of many interests and talents, Kevin loves to spend time renovating his Ridgefield home from the 1950’s. He learned to love working with his hands while helping his father as a youth and after four years of shop classes in high school. Kevin also loves working on his 1968 pale blue Karmann ghia, Volkswagen which is his pride and joy. Maureen, Kevin’s wife, also has a Volkswagen convertible,  but not a vintage one.

Kevin met Maureen at Murphy’s Town House Cafe in Stamford. This is the longest standing cafe in Stamford and many couples he knows met there and married. Maureen works at a preschool in town, and they have three beautiful and smart daughters. Their oldest daughter graduated from Miami University and is working in logistics in Chicago, their second daughter recently graduated from Wellesley College and is working at an auction house in New York, and their third daughter is a student at Duquesne University.
