What Services does the Ridgefield Health Department provide?
The Ridgefield Health Department provides the following:
Review, inspect and Permit/License:
Private Septic systems, New and revisions
Private Well systems, New and revisions
Water Treatment Wastewater systems (septic properties only)
Food Service Establishments, New and Annually
Itinerant Vendors and Caterers (after BOS approval), New and Annually
Temporary Food Service Vendors
Beauty Salons (Hair and Nail only), New and Annually, as of July 2021
In conjunction with the Building and Zoning departments (for septic properties), review, inspect and approve:
Subdivisions
New construction
Building addition/alterations
Accessory apartments
Annually and periodically inspect:
Food Service Establishments, Itinerant Vendors and Caterers
Beauty Salons (Hair and Nail only)
Public swimming pool inspections
Child Day Care inspections
School inspections
Provide Information:
to residents whose Well water analysis tested above levels for uranium, arsenic or radon
on septic as-built, well water, violations, Health review on Building applications, etc via email request to [email protected]. See directions under FAQ., question #2
on Radon and well water testing
Investigate and inspect:
Written public health complaints received. Anonymous complaints are not accepted as per the First Selectman's office. Examples are Housing, lead paint and mold complaints.
Provide materials (for Ridgefield residents only):
for applicants to process Lyme disease specimens to CAES (CT State lab). Applicant is responsible to mail and follow-up.
Investigate and Follow-up on Disasters and Communicable disease:
Works with the local area Directors, State and Federal officials to coordinate efforts state-wide.
Provides disaster resources for residents, as applicable to each event.
Provides Public awareness via Health department web-page Press Releases (i.e. Storms, Zika, Coronavirus etc.).
