RIDGEFIELD’S INAUGURAL
PRIDE FLAG RAISING CEREMONY

June 1, 2022 at 9am
Ridgefield Town Hall
400 Main Street, Ridgefield, CT

June is Pride month and to kick things off, Ridgefield CT Pride along with Ridgefield Allies, Ridgefield’s First Selectman, Rudy Marconi, State Representative Aimee Berger-Girvalo and State Senator Julie Kushner and others will raise the Pride Progress flag which will fly high in front of Town Hall for the month of June.

First Selectman, Rudy Marconi commented, "By displaying the Pride Progress flag at Ridgefield Town Hall during Pride Month, Ridgefield celebrates the LGBTQIA+ members of our community and shows solidarity with ongoing struggles for human rights and human dignity."

A myriad of other Pride events will be taking place in Ridgefield throughout the month including Ridgefield’s annual Pride in the Park on June 4, from 12-3pm with a march around the park starting at 1pm.  Go to RidgefieldCTPride.com for a full list of Pride Month events, the schedule of events for the 4th and much more.

The Pride Progress flag was created by American Daniel Quasar in 2018 as a more inclusive variation on the Rainbow flat that has long been a symbol of the LGBTQ+ Community. The Pride Progress flag features the 6 colors of the internationally-recognized Rainbow flag (red, orange, yellow, green blue and violet), plus five new colors (pink, white,  turquoise, brown and black) to represent and raise visibility of marginalized groups within the LGBTQIA+ community.   The five new colors are arrayed in the shape of a chevron pointing right, both for prominence and to point forward towards the future. All the colors have meanings:

Red = Life
Orange = Healing
Yellow = New Ideas
Green = Prosperity
Blue = Serenity
Violet = Spirit
White/Pink/Turquoise = Transgender, non-binary, and gender non-conforming people
Brown/Black = People of Color

Ridgefield CT Pride is a non-profit organization that was created to celebrate our LGBTQ+ community, to educate, promote awareness, understanding, and acceptance of this community; and to provide support for LGBTQ+ individuals and their allies.   In addition to organizing Ridgefield’s annual Pride in the Park celebration, Ridgefield CT Pride also runs two monthly support groups that serve the CT and NY communities.   The LGBTQ+ Youth group meets the first Monday of the month and offers support to LGBTQ+ Youth.   The second group meets on the fourth Tuesday of the month and is designed to support family and friends of people in the LGBTQ community.  During Covid, meetings are held virtually and the family group is a joint meeting with Waterbury PFLAG.   For more information on the support groups contact [email protected]
