Commission for the Disabled, Monday, Jan. 11, 2016, 5:00 pm, Small Conference Room

We will be discussing a two-year federal investigation by the Department of Justice into New York City's public elementary schools that concluded 83% are not "fully accessible" to children with disabilities in violation of the Americans with Disabilities Act. This information will help clarify the role of the USDOJ and that of the United States Attorney's office in protecting the rights of the disabled. As in the case of the New Rochelle, NY school district, which the Commission has previously discussed, the office of Preet Bharara, the United States Attorney for the Southern District of New York, has played the lead role in pursing this case.
