A small, natural, and spring fed lake - Great Pond is one of the gems of Connecticut. We provide lifeguard staffing during operating hours. Amenities include bathrooms, showers, picnic tables, a playground, and a volleyball net.  Come for a quick dip or bring a picnic and spend the day.

Water Mat
Our new water mat is available for kids and adults to enjoy on the following schedule:

Monday: 12:30 - 2:30 pm
Tuesday: 12:30 - 1:30 pm & 4:00 - 5:00 pm
Wednesday: 1:30 - 2:30 pm
Thursday: 1:00 - 2:00 pm & 4:00 - 5:00 pm
Friday: 3:00 - 4:00 pm
Saturday: 11:30 - 12:30 pm & 1:30 - 2:30 pm
Sunday: 1:00 - 3:00 pm

 Boat Rentals
Explore Great Pond!  Rent single kayaks, tandem kayaks, or 4-person paddle boats.
Rental Rate:  $10/hour

 

Cross Pond Swims
Accomplished swimmers ages 17 and older are invited to practice for a triathlon or just experience swimming in the open water. Swimmers enter the water at the boat launch area after checking in with park staff.  This is available FREE to Martin Park Beach members.  Non-members are invited to drop in to take advantage of this unique opportunity.

 FREE Supervised Games
Have more fun at the beach!  The staff runs a supervised game session twice a week to encourage active play.  Games include tug-of-war, water balloon toss,     capture the flag, and relay races.  Activities are chosen to best suit the ages represented in the participating group.

Introduction to Kayaking
If you are interested in learning the skills needed to enjoy kayaking, please contact Collene Gregory at (203) 431-2755.  Small groups of 5 may be put together.  If enough participants sign up, a class will run.  It will be a short program emphasizing safety, enjoyment, and skill acquisition for beginners.  Classes will cover safety, launching, landing, paddling, and more.  A certified American Canoe Association instructor will lead you through open water kayaking experiences.

Kayaks are provided with a maximum of 5 participants.
