Youth & Teen Programs
Our youth programs offer something for every interest! From arts to sports - your child will be engaged in an fun activity; while learning with their friends! The Recreation Center is more than just a building to drop your kids off at for a few hours. We strive to give parents peace of mind and provide a place where children look forward to learning, having fun, and meeting new friends!
Jim Santorelli returns to teach the language and rules of Chess to Children in Grades 1 - 6. There is no experience needed; those with more experience will be taught according to their ability. All equipment is provided.

Dance:
Continuing its long-time relationship with the Ridgefield Parks & Recreation, the Mac Donald-Pin Dancers, LLC, is a family oriented studio dedicated to providing all students with strong techniques, artistic expression, self-confidence and a love of dance! This complete program offers core classes in Ballet, Tap, Jazz/Hip Hop, and Lyrical as well as unique combination classes for the student who can't choose between Tap, Ballet, or Jazz! Plus Saturday classes to meet the needs of busy parents.

The first session begins September 7, 2010. Dance classes are offered for two semesters; Session 2 begins January 25, 2011 and culminates with a June Recital. INTRODUCTORY PROGRAMS: Introduces primary technique through simple steps that are both fun and challenging! These classes help younger children discover the world of dance through movement, rhythm, spatial awareness, and creativity in an artistic environment.

CORE PROGRAM: Children in Grades K - 12 will be introduced to a technical foundation and have an opportunity to develop musicality, balance, agility, and coordination. The combination classes provide a look into two styles of dance and a whole lot of fun!

PERFORMANCE TEAM (Grades 6 - 12):
For students that take 3 or more dance classes, performance team
provides a learning environment that helps improve performance ability,
develop spatial awareness when performing in groups and understand how
to work with more complicated timing and choreography.
ADULT CLASSES: Beginner and Advanced Tap for interested Adults
BALLROOM (Adult): Instruction in the basics of the Foxtrot, Swing, Waltz, Cha Cha and Rumba! Participants must be a pair (Ballroom is a 10-week course)
Kempo Karate:
Master Craigue has over 20 years experience in the martial arts. Through his years of extensive study and training he has achieved several black belts in Chinese Kempo, American Kenpo and black sash in Chinese Kung Fu. As a student progresses there are “belt advancement tests” and every Spring a large regional tournament is hosted here at the Recreation Center. Students will understand and use the martial arts in order to develop self-discipline, self-control, and respect for others. Our unique style of traditional martial arts training, cardio workouts, and stretching techniques, allow individuals to gain the physical benefits and confidence that is achieved through effective self-defense training. Registration for this program is done monthly.

Kids Yoga:
Bryn Page will be teaching children’s yoga for 2nd - 8th graders on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays from September 16 - December 2nd. Participants will gain improved strength, flexibility and coordination. They will also learn respect for themselves and others, games and breathing exercises. Skate Park:
Sessions are available in 6-lesson packages. Students may take lessons 2 days/week (Tues. & Thurs.), or 1 day/week (Tues. OR Thurs.). Experienced and friendly instructors will evaluate the students and group them by ability level. Full safety gear is required. Members receive a $30 discount on lessons.

Pee Wee Ramp • 4:00 - 4:30 pm • $90: Skaters 7 years and under will learn the basics in an age appropriate and comfortable setting — geared towards youngsters long on energy and short on attention span! Patient and friendly instructors will help skaters feel confident on their boards or skates as they try out the skate park. Skaters will move at their own pace and receive individual instruction when possible.
Ramp 1 (Beginner) • 4:30 - 5:30 pm • $135: Skaters of all ages and ability levels will learn the fundamentals and begin to navigate around the skate park—using appropriate ramps and obstacles as they are ready. Simple tricks are taught in a friendly, supportive, and non-competitive setting. Skaters may advance to Ramp 2 as skills improve.
Ramp 2 (Intermediate) • 5:30 - 6:30 pm • $135: Skaters of all ages will learn advanced tricks and maneuvers like full spins (360’s), half spins (180’s), Ollies, Kickflips, Shuvits, 50-50’s, Nosegrinds, and more! Taught by experienced instructors. Intermediate students will come away from this course with a large repertoire of tricks and the skills necessary to compete at the Intermediate level of competition.

Tennis:
Instructor Jonathan Chase returns with his popular tennis programs for children in preschool through Grade 8 and for Adults. Classes meet once a week for one hour. Participants should bring a tennis racquet and water bottle and wear sneakers.
