Youth Fitness Development Program 
This program, new this year, helps today’s youth (3 - 17) develop their coordination through fun physical education.  It is designed to help maintain and build great motor movement patterns.

Acting 
This energetic and exciting program teaches the fundamentals of theater and acting.  These classes are specifically designed to help students build confidence and inspire their imaginations in a supportive environment.  Some topics and activities include:  theater games, improvisational exercises, acting terminology, concentration exercises, voice and speech, sense memory, subtext, stage skills and basic script work.

Checkmate Chess
Come down to the Ridgefield Recreation Center to learn the language and rules of Chess. There is no experience needed, but those who are experienced will be taught according to their ability, and all equipment is provided. Learn a great new game that will give you a lifetime of fun for the whole family. Checkmate Chess is open to grades 1-6. Kindergarteners will be allowed on an individual basis determined by the instructor.
Jim Santorelli of the National Scholastic Chess Foundation will be providing this program with the assistance of Adnan Kobas. Both of these individuals come with a great amount of National chess experience and work with chess programs all over the NY and CT areas. CLASSES OFFERED:
TAP N’ FUN (3 yr. olds):  A great way to discover movement through dance!
INTRO. TO BALLET (4 yr. old & K):Introduces primary ballet technique through simple steps that are both fun and challenging!
BEGINNER TAP/JAZZ (4 yr. olds & K):  Primary level tap technique, rhythmic exercises and stretching along with an introduction to jazz technique and basic hip hop moves!
BALLET (K - Grade 12):  Ballet is the technical foundation for all forms of dance.  Careful, age appropriate training.
POINTE (Grades 5 - 12):  Pointe class enables the ballet dancer to bring their grace and technical ability to a higher level.  Pointe class is offered to students 10 years and older with permission from the instructor.
TAP (K - Adult):  Tap is Fun!  You can express yourself through the tapping rhythms of your feet!
JAZZ/HIP HOP (K - Adult):  Age-appropriate technique as well as exciting dance combinations, turns, leaps, and progressions.
LYRICAL/CONTEMPORARY (Grades 3 - 12):  Lyrical is a blending of Ballet and Jazz techniques creating a perfect avenue of self-expression.
BALLROOM (Adult):  Instruction in the basics of the Foxtrot, Swing, Waltz, Cha Cha and Rumba!  (Ballroom is an 8- week course)

Karate
Soo Bahk Do Moo Duk Kwan may be classified as a "classical martial art" that involves theory and aesthetics as well as physical mastery of the body. James Kirby has been training in the art of Soo Bahk Do for twenty years, and he has been a full-time instructor since 1994. He continues to study under the instruction of Grand Master H. C. Hwang.

Karate Tots
This special program is designed for children ages 3 ½ to 5 years old as an introduction to the martial arts. Students will learn basic techniques in the Korean Martial Art of Soo Bahk Do while increasing strength, coordination, and concentration in a fun setting. Sessions are on going.

Young Adult Yoga w/Melanie Cain-Vinci
"It's cool to be grounded!"  More and more teens are finding out that the calming, centering practice of yoga can help them find self-acceptance and confidence.  Yoga postures create certain pressures to stimiulate the body and brain making necessary changes toward becoming a healthier individual.

Tennis
Jonathon Chase will be offering his popular tennis program for adults and children beginning April 28 - June 12. Rain or shine classes will be held on the Yanity Courts (in Yanity Gymnasium if rain).

Red Cross Babysitting
Ridgefield Parks and Recreation runs ongoing Red Cross babysitting courses throughout the year.  Students, 11 years and older, will receive the American Red Cross Babysitting Certificate.   Must attend all class time to become certified.  Students should bring pencil/pen and paper.  Please bring a snack.

Scuba Diving
Learning to SCUBA DIVE is the beginning of an exciting, lifelong recreation.  Scuba is a fun, safe, family-friendly recreation.  Children must be 10 years old.  Parents are encouraged to participate with children under 13.  All children under 18 require signed parents permission.  Students must be able to tread water for 10 minutes to meet the swim requirement.  Home study is a crucial component of the course.  You must answer all the “knowledge reviews” for all chapters and view the corresponding video before the first session.  Each student supplies: text, mask, snorkel and fins (booties recommended).
