Ridgefield Transfer Station

65 South Street

Days: Monday -- Saturday

Public Services manages the Ridgefield Transfer Station.  The station accepts, at a fee, solid waste, brush / leaves and some recyclables.  E-Waste (CT DEP approved) that can be recycled at no charge along with a complete fee list can be seen by clicking on this link - Transfer Station Fees.  A full description of each type, along with how to get a permit and rate fees, is also shown below:

 

Permits

All vehicles must have a permit or produce a temporary pass plus a second ID to be allowed access to the transfer station.  These must be obtained at the Town Hall, 400 Main Street during normal business hours (Monday through Friday, 8:30 am to 4:30 pm).

No permit charge for passenger cars.

Truck permits are charged as follows:

Class B (Trucks)                            Fee: $ 10.00

Class C (Commercial/Sanitation)       Fee: $ 10.00

 

Solid Waste

Rate:    $ 84.44/ ton                        Minimum Charge:    $5.00

1.    All passenger vehicles with 120 pounds or less of household garbage may purchase tokens at the scale house ($5.00 each) and proceed to the transfer house without weighing in.  Enter the driveway to the right of the scale house and proceed to the gate (see picture above).  Put token into the slot of the gate control box (driver's side) and gate will lift.  Follow asphalt driveway around to the far left side of the transfer station.

2.    All trucks and passenger vehicles with more than 120 pounds of garbage must weigh in and out on the scale.  Please enter the driveway to the left of the scale house and stop on the weigh scale next to the yellow house.  Stay in your vehicle and you will be weighed in.  After dumping your load at the far left side of the transfer station return to the scale to be weighed out.  Once you are signaled that the process is complete you may exit your vehicle and pay at the yellow house.

3.    All demolition materials and large household items such as carpeting, furniture, mattresses etc. must be weighed in and out on the scale.

 

Brush / Leaves

Rate:    $100.00 / ton                        Minimum Charge:    $5.00

All brush and leaves must be weighed in and out on the scale.

Note: Brush in excess of 5" in diameter, stumps, logs and grass clippings with not be accepted at the transfer station.

 

Recyclables

Rate:    $0.15 / pound                        No Minimum

All recycables must be weighed in and out on the scale.  Recyclables include:

    •     Scrap Metal
    •     Refrigerators & Freezers
    •     Dehumidifiers
    •     Propane Tanks (40lb. max)
    •     Car Batteries
    •     Tires

Payments

All holders of temporary passes are required to weigh in and out and are required to make payment in cash.  Checks or credit cards are not accepted.
