The Opening Volley of Patriot Weekend
1775 TOWN MEETING RE-ENACTMENT
Ridgefield Democrats, Republicans and the Patriot Weekend Committee, sponsored a reenactment of the historic 1775 Town Meeting at which Ridgefielders debated whether to stay loyal to the King of England or to join the Revolution. The reenactment, was held at St. Stephens Church on April 24th. Everyone who attended were treated to a night of living history.
About 30 Ridgefielders, including Ridgefield High School AP History students, Democrats, Republicans, and interested townspeople played the parts of 18th Century townspeople in a passionate debate over Ridgefield's stand in the upcoming Revolutionary War.
Attendees at the reenacted Town Meeting voted at the end on a resolution for the Town to join the call of the Continental Congress to boycott British goods, and in effect, join the revolution. View photos from the evening from the slide show.
